Join us on Sunday, May 19th at the Cedar Lee Theater for a free community screening of visual artist Maya Peroune’s film, “Black Is?”

Peroune explores the complexities of being black in America through the lens of young adults from various backgrounds and experiences. Discussion of historic Black figures, the American school system, colorism, segregation, beauty standards, and more are at the forefront.

Following the screening, Peroune will be joined in discussion with multidisciplinary artist Shatara Jordan to discuss the film, Peroune’s current and future projects, and hold a Q&A with the audience. She holds this time to discuss her practice, future endeavors, and time in New York City and the School of Visual Arts.

The Screening of “Black Is?” is generously supported by Cuyahoga Arts & Culture (CAC) and the Ohio Arts Council (OAC).

In partnership with Cleveland State University, Cleveland Print Room members now have access to our Community Darkroom!

In addition to this, on select Saturdays through May 18th (pictured above), we are running a B&W Darkroom Basics class!

The program will cover the development, proofing, and printing of black and white film.
